Request System for Digitization and Metadata Creation
In order to track projects and create a dynamic list of jobs submitted and their current status, we are developing a new request system. The initial phase of this system will be a simple Web-based form allowing a staff member to enter details of the proposed project (e.g., a working title, number of objects to be digitized, location of any associated metadata, project deadlines, etc.).
As the system develops, it will eventually allow NYPL staff to enter or upload any data available. This data will go into temp tables that can then be accessed, massaged, vetted, and pushed into the Metadata database.
The system will also keep track of changes in the status to any given project and send alerts to the project contact as changes happen. Staff will also be able to go to the site to check up on any and all projects they have created. The goal of the system is, in the end, increased visibility of what is happening in the lifecycle of a given project.
