eXtensible Text Framework (XTF)
Written on October 30, 2007 by Lynn Lobash
I am experimenting with a new retrieval system for the finding aids and possibly digital images. It is open source from the fine people at California Digital Library. So far, I have indexed all the EAD encoded finding aids and am currently working to test some TEI files. Full-text indexing is based on the Lucene engine and relevancy algorithm. I am very pleased with its retrieval functionality and display features.
The test system is fully functional and utilizes a complete copy of our existing NYPL data, available for your exploration.

Um, could you provide a non-private IP for the demo?
Jeremy,
I’m sorry. It is a test database, internal. There is a firewall preventing outside access.
Out of curiosity, what institution are you with?
Lynn,
Since your test environment is inside the firewall (which of course makes perfect sense early on in the process) perhaps you can do some screen shots and provide some sample code to let the greater community in on your thinking and your development.
We’re also considering it at UVA. We already had prototype indexing scripts tested for Lucene, now we are exploring integrating XTF. Both would be on top of our Fedora repository as the datastore. We haven’t made any progress yet — too many projects at once.
Super fancy site using XTF just launched.
